In an overwhelming 'yes' vote, Cebu Pacific regular cabin crew members establishes the Juan Wing Association of the Philippines (JWAP) after its elections last April 1 to 5. Out of 1,135 votes cast, a resounding 1,124 voted for YES to form the union, 3 voted for NO, and 8 were spoiled ballots. Both the elections and counting were witnessed and overseen by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
In a report from BusinessWorld, Cebu Pacific Chief Operating Officer Michael Ivan Shau said, "“In the coming weeks, we will be meeting with representatives of the Juan Wing cabin crew union. We intend to engage in healthy dialogue and ensure a positive and productive relationship,” as mentioned in the news article.
JWAP is affiliated with the Associated Labor Union - Trade Union Congress of the Philippines. “The union will negotiate for better wages and benefits, better working conditions, and better terms under the existing labor policies and regulations to improve… (the) working climate that would benefit the interests of both the union members and the management,” said TUCP President Raymond C. Mendoza in a statement.
In a report, Mr. Shau has mentioned that the airline’s desire to provide all Cebu Pacific employees better labor rights has always been a top concern.
The JG Summit Holdings, Inc. unit said it practices are in line with the group’s engagement policy with its workers.
