Seventy three years ago today (July 31, 2019), Philippine Airlines took its very first transpacific flight. The flight flew from Manila to Oakland with stopovers at Guam, Johnston Atoll, and Honolulu, before landing at Oakland, California. On board the 41-hour flight were 40 US servicemen who were homesick. Taking care of them and ensuring their comfort was PAL's very first flight attendant, Ms. Rebecca Verzosa-Santos.

Cebu Pacific continues to hire more cabin crew! First and foremost, their cabin crew walk-in interviews in Manila are still ongoing. This happens at the Cebu Pacific headquarters from Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 11am only. Their main office is located at Domestic Rd., Pasay City. So again, their walk-in interview/assessment are from Mondays to Fridays only except holidays!
Cebu Pacific is not over yet in hiring cabin crew members! With a new order of 31 Airbus NEO jets, they are definitely adding more capacity and perhaps, even more destination. This July 6, 2019 from 9am to 1pm at Quest Plus Conference Center, Mimosa Drive, Filinvest Mimosa + Leisure City, Clark Freeport Zone.
Last June 29, PAL Express held a cabin crew recruitment event at its Manila office. This did not only draw in 1,540 wishfulls to be a cabin crew one day, but the line was around 521 meters long approximately that it had reached the PAL cargo area very close to NAIA terminal 3 and right across the rotunda! A video taken by a sender who requested for non-disclosure of his identity showed how long the line was!

In my last meeting with Philippine Airlines President and COO Jaime J. Bautista, we did talk about the airline's goal and direction of becoming a 5-star airline. Though he did mention that becoming a 5-star carrier is indeed a very big challenge, it is very much possible for as long as forward steps are undertaken everyday, be it big or miniscule. It looks like everything is slowly paying off!
Air Asia, PAL Express, and Cebu Pacific Makes the Rankings at the Low Cost Category of Skytrax World Airline Awards
In the recent 2019 Skytrax World Airline Awards at the low-cost airline category, Air Asia was named as the World's Best Low Cost Airline while PAL Express was ranked #13! Though Air Asia's main headquarters are in Malaysia, it also has a subsidiary in the Philippines which is known as Philippines Air Asia. On the other hand, PAL Express was the former AirPhil Express being operated by Air Philippines.

Incoming flights to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport experienced delays of 2 hours and beyond due to a red alert lightning warning last Sunday, June 9. A red alert lightning warning means lightning is prevailent in the area which poses great danger to the passengers and personel working at the ramp area during those moments. Ground movement for ramp personel were temporarily suspended due to the danger of lightning which may strike them.
Never ever ever crack a single bomb joke within the airport and most particularly inside an aircraft. Do not even bother to make a statement regarding a bomb as this is dealt with very seriously by authorities. It is dealt with very seriously that it can cause the Air Force to scramble fighter jets! This was exactly what happened last June 2 aboard a Scoot Airline flight from Cebu to Singapore.

UPDATE: Air France flight 218 from Paris-CDG to Mumbai, India, declared an emergency and diverted to Kuwait City Airport after the crew reported smoke on board.

In the wake of the Aeroflot 1492 incident, airlines are now more strict and firm on following their flight attendant's safety instructions. A passenger on board Air New Zealand flight NZ424 was offloaded at Wellington for refusing to obey flight attendant's instructions to watch safety video and to read the safety instructions exit row card. She was seated at an exit row seat.

An Aeroflot Sukhoi Superjet 100 crash landed at the Sheremetyevo Airport at the Russian capital of Moscow. Flight SU1492 took off around 6pm which was later hit by lightning causing problems forcing the pilots to return to the airport due to technical problems. 78 people were on board.
A Boeing 737-800 carrying 136 passengers and 7 crew members slides of the runway and ends up at the St. Johns River at the end of the runway at the Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, USA. The aircraft was a chartered flight bearing the Miami Air International livery was arriving from the Naval Station Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. Out of the 143 people on board, 21 were injured.

It was indeed a very emotional moment for Saudia cabin crew as the bodies of their colleagues who were killed in the recent Sri Lanka attacks finally arrive home, at the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The bodies of Cabin crew Ahmed Zain Jaafari and Hani Maged Othman were greeted by their tearful colleagues at the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.
