PAL has been my dream company. I spent my On-the-Job Training in PAL Iloilo. After graduation, I wasn't prepared to apply as a Flight Steward yet because I was not confident, I was shy, aloof, introvert and I still had a lot to work on myself.
So I decided to work in a Call Center. It really helped me boost my self confidence, improve my communication skills and the way I interact with other people. I started as a regular agent, because of my eagerness to learn and my determination to succeed, I became the Top Frontline Agent for 6 straight months which paved way for me to be promoted as a New Hire Trainer. After a year and a half, I was promoted to become a supervisor and handled my own team. I was already at the peak of my career. I was one of the youngest Supervisors, I was chosen to be the Face of our Company's Billboard Ad and I was awarded as a Top Coach. Nevertheless I sacrificed all those things because of my dream of becoming a FLIGHT STEWARD.
After resigning, I did a lot of preparation. Work out, diet and everyday ako nag reresearch ng possible questions.
I went to Manila ALL BY MYSELF with NOTHING but my FAITH. Then came the mass hiring, I was one of the 900 applicants. Sa sobrang haba ng pila I was already losing hope, nainitan, nagutom, napagod but I said to myself, "Never give up, this is your DREAM". Out of 900 applicants who lined up, surprisingly I was part of the 20 Aspiring Cabin Crew who passed all rounds of Interview.
Then came the training, it was THE MOST CHALLENGING PART. Talagang hindi biro ang training, walang tulugan everytime may exam and 90% ang passing grade so maximum of 2 mistakes lang per exam. 100+ pages inaaral namin gabi gabi and we needed to MEMORIZE IT WORD PER WORD!!! Nung bumagsak ako sa isang exam, I felt like my world would shatter. I remember myself calling to my family one night and crying because I can no longer contain the pressure. But they would tell me, "Sa hinaba-haba ng pinila mo, andyan kana nag ttraining. Malapit mo ng makamtan ang pangarap mo. Ngayon kapa ba bibitaw??" Those words would always linger in my mind whenever I felt like giving up. Whenever I see a Flight Steward wearing his uniform, it makes me smile and I told myself, "Someday makakasuot din ako nyan."
I have finally made it through training and I finally GRADUATED as a FLIGHT STEWARD. I want to THANK EVERYONE who never left me in my journey. To my FAMILY for their unconditional love and moral support, to my friends for always believing that I could make it. To our line administrators and especially to my BATCHMATES, this journey would not be meaningful without you!!!
For those who had been rejected in becoming a Cabin Crew, NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS. It took me 3 LONG YEARS to improve and prepare myself and now I'm FINALLY HERE!!!
Get going. Move forward. Aim High. Plan a takeoff. Don't just sit on the runway and hope someone will come along and push the airplane. It simply won't happen. Change your attitude and gain some altitude. Believe me, you'll love it up here.
I'm Flight Steward Bryan Garbo Gonzalez, flying with you!
