The Importance of Presenting Your Boarding Pass to the FA and Paying Attention to Instructions on the Emergency Exit Doors
Written by Mond Ortiz
When we board an aircraft, notice that the flight attendant will ask you to present your boarding pass for checking. When you are seated in an emergency exit row, your flight attendant will brief you on how to open the emergency doors even if you fly almost every week. All these are mandatory procedures by the airline for various important reasons and we will discuss here why we should never take these against the flight attendants.
Safety in the airline industry is paramount. Buying a plane tickets gives you the right and privilege to travel via air from point A to point B safely and in one piece. It does not give you the freedom to do and demand for whatever you want. Policies and instructions for passengers are there for safety reasons as this is a 2-way thing. It also requires the cooperation of passengers.
Allow me to state down the importance of these procedures and why you should never take it against your flight attendants.
Reasons why the cabin crew asks you to present your boarding pass:
You have no right to take it against your flight attendant when they carry on these instructions.
Safety instructions are vital at every flight, in fact, there is a law on the Philippines that can make you criminally liable if you stop or interfere in a flight attendant's safety instructions. Please let us avoid shouting at your cabin crew when they ask for your boarding pass. There is a reason for that. Do not also stop your flight attendant from briefing you about the emergency exit doors. There are important reasons why these procedures are being carried out.
Just for your information too. As passengers board, flight attendants are already profiling them. One of those things they check is if you are a security and safety risk or not based on your behavior.
Let us just obey our cabin crew because all these are being done for our personal safety and this is what we actually paid for when we purchased a ticket. Flight attendants are trained to ensure your safety and comfort on board but it does take two to tango.
At the end of the day, all we want is a safe and comfortable flight.
Another bit of information too. Passenger aircraft are now being slowly equipped with sensors and cameras throughout the cabin that will track and record your every move on the aircraft. Though the main reason behind this is for the airline to provide a more customized service for passengers, but of course, another is for them to check your behavior, especially if you are a nuisance passenger.
