It was no easy job making it to five different airlines as a Flight Attendant. The process was a mix of challenges, failures and never losing that drive and determination to get the job. This brings me back to that moment, just right before I got hired the first time. I broke my chances twice before making it to the Airline Industry. One of which, I reached the second to the last stage of assessment before the final interview of Emirates.
While the other airline company is Qatar Airways, where I reached the final interview and did not make it. However, I was advised to go back for another final interview, which I have declined attending, as I have already opted to join my first airline, since I was already about to fly out that same week.
How did I become a Flight Attendant of Oman Air, Asiana Airlines, Seair-Tiger Air, Saudi Arabian Airlines and Etihad Airways?
Imagine a crowd full of applicants. Then, the Airline Recruitment Team would choose only 15 to 25 or 30 out of that huge crowd. Aside from passing, what should be your goal? Perhaps, being noticed in a positive way by the Recruitment Team? Make that your goal! That will direct your path to becoming a Flight Attendant or Cabin Crew.
The key is to be preeminent. It may be difficult, considering the hundreds to thousands of applicants wanting to be in the same position you want to be in. I am here, not to make it easy for you, but to make it work for you. You can achieve this by making an impact. As cliché-sounding as it may seem, impact is the right word. It’s just that sometimes, our ways of making an impact should be improved to ensure we fall on making a good one.
Give an introduction that is nowhere to be read on your resume because we do not want to repeat what the interviewer already knows and we aim to let the interviewer get to know us more to convince him/her to see us fit for the role. This is also a good way of answering the ever-loving “Tell me something about yourself. / Describe yourself”.
Manifest your full potential. Have an it’s-now-or-never mindset. Present your best self thru both your image and personality. Anticipate, like if a question has been asked, there may be a follow-up related to the previous question. You can also anticipate questions even before your interview begins, so you can start preparing for these. Be conscious of your gestures. Avoid unnecessary mannerisms, if any. Time is always gold, more so, for interviewers who have yet to conduct interviews to the rest of the applicants in line. Keep your answers brief, but comprehensive. When you make it to the final interview, that is when you have time to speak a bit more.
So, be preeminent. Make an impact that is more than usual. You will be a Flight Attendant!
