During airline open days or cabin crew mass recruitment events, you would see a line of applicants as long as those Black Friday Sale lines in the shopping centers. Unfortunately though, only 1% to 5% of the total number of applicants make it to become a full fledged cabin crew! Indeed, the job of a flight attendant is one of the world's most desired jobs nowadays, despite its danger and the challenges to get in.
Having the title "flight attendant", "flight steward", and "purser" have now been associated to someone who is working on a very glamorous job in which it has become the dream of a multitude to hold the title and to actually be a cabin crew one day.
We now give you 10 reasons why cabin crew members love where they are now and why many dreams and aspires to have their own wings also one day.
LIVING THE CREWLIFE
If there is such thing as a "modest life" and "life of the rich and famous", there is also such thing as "living the crewlife". It is because only present and former cabin crew members understand this job. They speak the same language. They speak the same lifetsyle. They went through the same guelling process of getting hired, trained, and graduating. Regardless from what airline they are, they simply get along. They share the same jargons. They understand what they go through. Moreso, they are willing to speak up for each other against non-aviation "expert wannabes" who think that being a cabin crew is just this and that.
MEETING ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE
And serving them too! Cabin crew members are able to personally meet and serve celebrities, presidents, government officials, popular personalities, Inspirational speakers, athletes, musicians, their life idols, and any normal person. They get to meet them without any effort and even more, they get to share a light conversational with them. Not everyone also will be pleasant passengers, but nevetheless, meeting and dealing with a hundred different people everyday definitely will develop your interpersonal skills.
More than just free travels, you are even paid to travel! Whereas others work to pay for their travels, cabin crew members have to travel to get paid! So just imagine that you are able to travel the world for FREE!
THEIR UNIFORMS AND THEIR WINGS
Airlines invests heavily on the uniform of their cabin crew to the point of hiring top notch fashion designers just to do them! Also, the only uniform launch that makes the headlines are cabin crew and some airline personel uniforms! In fact, many cabin crew uniforms are even more expensive than other normal branded dresses! Add also the fact that there is barely no woman who never imagined herself in a cabin crew uniform in any part of their life.
Not all hotels where cabin crew members are booked are 5-star, and not all may be super comfortable too. Hotels have become a second home for flight attendants and this is why maybe also others think that being a cabin crew is glamorous!
Vacation leave? Yes cabin crew members can still fly for free, but usually as chance passengers. At the end of the day, it's still free! They just have to be ready with a plan B if things don't come out as planned.
Generally, flight attendants can sit in any class including first class even as chance passengers. Usually, airlines give priority to the paying passengers but let's say that there are vacant seats in first class, flight attendants on free trips may take it.
CREW LANES AND PRIORITY LANES
No need to line-up at the immigration counter. Flight crew members have a special and dedicated lane for them were they just breeze through it. No need to wait for long hours especially during peak seasons like Christmas, New Year, and other holidays.
This is also why there are plenty of cabin crew who become entrepreneurs. They get to shop for items anywhere in the world. They know where to get items at low prices, even branded ones. Some they use for their own selves and some they sell. Regardless of what it is, having that privilege to shop in different countries opens their eyes to new opportunities and trends.
THEY ARE THE UNSUNG HEROES OF THE SKY
If you think that flight attendants and stewards are only their to serve you food and beverage, you are totally wrong. They are trained and have acquired enough "superpowers" to save lives. They can even deal with extreme situations on board an aircraft like helping a woman give birth, reviving passengers who go through seizures, and even the ability to calm frantic passengers.
