Cabin Crew Graduation Rites and Pinning Ceremonies that We Attend
July 30 was a day we witnessed two cabin crew graduation ceremonies of two distinct airlines. The second one that day was that of Philippine Airlines batch ICCT1804, the last PAL newly hired batch to graduate this 2018, and 3rd batch to be assigned in Cebu by September. This event was held at the PAL Learning Center and the these for the night was "A Perfect Time". This class was under the guidance of their trainors Purser Maricel "Marsha" Monfort and Pat De Leon.
Allow us first to quote an important from the Bible from Ecclesiastes 3:1 which goes, "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens;"
Truly, there is a time for everything, a perfect time, and to these 17 individuals from ICCT1804-A, the perfect time to be a cabin crew came on July 31.
Traditionally, we all know how a PAL cabin crew graduation goes. First you have the welcome remarks by Mr. Ferdie Legaspi, the Inflight Training Department Manager, then you have the march of the cabin crew graduates, then a speech by their special guest speaker, pinning of the wings which is the highlight of the night, the giving of special awards, a speech from the valedictorian, then a speech from the class trainors, concluded by a video presentation and group photos. What makes each unique though are the themes, messages, and stories we learn in each graduation. For this one, everything centered on "The Perfect Time."
Just to give you a background about this batch, they all applied in Philippine Airlines last 2016 but as their application was ongoing, the airline had to stop hiring, hence, they were placed on hold. Some became flight attendants of other airlines and some waited. Some also became a flight attendant while waiting! To them, 2018 was their perfect time to finally become a flight attendant of Philippine Airlines.
This year, Philippine Airlines embarked on a new scheme to make more efficient use of their cabin crew and to save on costs in order to improve and grow their Cebu hub. They decided to open a Cebu basing scheme for their cabin crew where they will now be domiciled in Cebu. With this new scheme, Cebu positioning from the Manila based crew would not be needed anymore. ICCT1804 is the last of this group to be assigned there.
Ms. Glenda Ochoa's talk also centered on timing and the perfect timing which was highlighted by the perfect timing of every passenger was when they chose Philippine Airlines to be the airline to fly them. The perfect timing for the airline and for the crew are indeed now, and that day was their perfect time to continually discover and develop themselves to always be the 4-star cabin crew they are in the eyes of the passengers.
There is also a reason why "the perfect timing" meant a lot to us in Flyhigh Manila. Way back in 2013 when we started out as a pure events company for cabin crew, we had this dream to dominate the Philippine cabin crew industry and to make waves in the global cabin crew world. We tried all means but failed. As we tried our best to fast track everything to be number one, we discovered that we were just "digging our graves" further. Instead, we slowed and, refocused, and accept the fact that the time will come when Flyhigh Manila will dominate the Filipino cabin crew market. We did not know whem we just had to focus on our goal. Today, we are not only did we capture 80% of the Philippine cabin crew market, but Flyhigh Manila has indeed captured the global Filipino cabin crew market! We get picture submissions from all continents around the world where there are Filipino cabin crew, we are read and followed by more than 115,000 people from present cabin crew up to those who dreams to become one in due time. Indeed, our perfect time came, and looking back on our 5-year journey, we now believe that there is a time for everything.
One time, they all were dreamers, wishing that one day, they would be finally carrying the title "Flight Attendant" and "Flight Steward". Then the time came when they were hired, and finally, the time has come for them to be officially flight attendants.
So what happens between the time when we first dream to the perfect time meant for us to finally fly? That's the perfect time to develop yourself, to know more about yourself, to take action to turn your dream into a reality, and to develop yourself. It is that time when you learn from mistakes and when you thirst for knowledge because you know that one day, your dreams will take flight.
Everyone one of these individuals from 1804 were once dreamers who did not only wait for the perfect timing, but who took action to make that time possible. There is no secret formula to become a flight attendant and to one day, be seated were each of these once-dreamers are now seated. All it needs is that burning desire to become a flight attendant, the will to take action, the courage to withstand all adversities, and the hunger to earn those wings.
We believe that the perfect time came when Purser Marsha Monfort and Pat De Leon became their trainers and their "second parents", as how they would term them. Indeed, the perfect time came when these set of individuals were matched with their trainers which will enable them to be not just a 4-star, but a 5-star cabin crew!
Always remember that there is a time for everything. To our aspiring cabin crew, be patient, work hard, and never give up. Just like them, your time will come, because just like the sun and moon, we will all have our perfect time to shine.
