I have travelled to so many places, trying out different restaurants. My lifestyle as a cabin crew has gave me that urge to always try something new, especially when it comes to dining. For me, for as long as it tastes good, I am happy and there is one spot that stands out. That's Uno Bistro, a qaint resto-bar located at the Salem Complex in Pasay City. Nothing like unwinding and dining at this place after a long day of flights.
Despite it being a small spot, Uno can be considered a "jack of all trades" when it comes to my restobar standards. The food is definitely delicious, the ambiance is "homey", the staff's friendliness are second to none, and price is just right, and the crowd is okay. They are mostly from the aviation industry as the airports are just located within the vicinity.
So why do I love Uno Bistro? Let's first go to the food. I can never drink without having something in my tumm tumm. Whatever I eat has to be worth every cent I pay and honestly, this place gives more value than what you pay for when it comes to food. They serve a fusion of Filipino food. They do also have Japanese, but I would say it's mostly Filipino fusion. They even have street food! My personal favorite is Reynaldo's Pizza. This one is perfect for a beer!
This is a mix of meat, lots of cheese, and spices. Yes it is spicy too, no need to add hot sauce! This is also a favorite of many regulars here who gulps down buckets and buckets of beer. Aside from a Reynaldo's Pizza, I went for the Shrimp Supreme for a change. I usually order for their other best seller which is Garlic Chicken but Shrimp Supreme seemed so tempting!
I would also highly recommend this if you want something heavy to go with your beer. Basically, shrimps are mixed with lots of cheese and bell pepper, baked and served! I am just not sure what else is in here but this can be a belly buster if you are really hungry. According to their manager, Nino Magbag, this is also a best seller.
Other items I recommend here are Krispy Pata, Captain Oink's Dinakdakan, Sexy Mamu Belly, and the Spicy Uno Sausage. All perfect for beers! Their Salpicao is also a must, especially with rice.
Now let's go to the vibe of Uno. Okay, they have this mantra that goes "lahat pwede"! That means anything you do there, for as long as it is not destructive and illegal, it's all good! There music is open format, they have no particular theme per night. You can drink and get drunk all you want there, but just be responsible enough not to cause any trouble with other customers. You may even dance if you love the music. You may even cry if you're heartbroken. That "lahat pwede" in other words simply mean "be yourself and enjoy". The owners, particularly Albert Nocom, Rey Fuentez, and Lito Bautista, will welcome you with all their hearts. They will treat you as though you are a long time friend to them, eventually giving you that feeling of being at home. Their regulars are my friends too as many are from the aviation industry. I have also made friends with cabin crew from other airlines there.
They have this certain vibe that makes you just feel at home. Yes a bar you can consider as "homebase" should make you feel at ease at all times and Uno has just that! Maybe that's the reason why they have been running for 12 years already! I had never yet seen a bar last that long.
Third and I think one reason why I love it at Uno is the staff. They have the friendliest staff who will treat you more than just a customer, but as also a friend to them. You may strike a conversation with them, they will take care of you incase you have had too much alcohol, and most, they are very trust worthy. I have found out too that many of them have been working for Uno from the time it started! They never left the place and all the regulars treat the staff as their friends too! Nino the manager, Arman, Tolits, Ela, Raicel, Da, and the people in the kitchen, I must say they are great people who knows how to take care of their customers.
Many of us flight attendants feel safe at Uno. Their staff really protects us. They take care of us a lot too.
If I am to personally recommend a watering hole for cabin crew with delicious food, lots of booze, an awesome staff, open format music, and a laid back ambiance, this is the perfect spot, Uno Bistro, a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to a restobar. Price range is very reasonable too. Just bring Php 1000.00 and that's more than enough to give you a perfect night.
With all that I have said, it should not make you wonder why they have been around for 12 years and counting.
Uno Bistro is located at the Salem Complex, Domestic Road, Pasay City. It is open from Monday to Friday 5pm to 3am and Saturday 6pm to 3am.
