[Video] Reaction of Various Filipino Cabin Crew When Steve Harvey Said "Philippines" as Ms. Universe 2018
December 17, 2018 was a special day in the Philippines as the country's representative Catriona Gray was crowned as Ms. Universe 2018! Filipinos around the world cheered every time the name "Philippines" was said until the new Ms. Universe was finally proclaimed. It was also a lucky day for our flight attendants on duty as they gathered to watch this glorious moment while waiting for their flight announcements or their field reserve duties to end.
September 5, 1986, a Pan Am flight attendant named Neerja Bhanot was killed by hijackers after saving the lives of more than a hundred passengers. It was indeed a story of true heroism from a flight attendant who boarded her flight the same day without knowing that it would be her last. Her story is an untold one of what a flight attendant actually lives for, and that is for the lives of their passengers, until 2016.
Cebu Pacific Flight Steward Carries a Passenger's Crying Grandson while Serving Other Passengers at the Same Time
"Kung gusto, may paraan." This saying holds very true for all cabin crew who really do want to extend help to their passengers. Just yesterday, a passenger named Jumaya Guibar posted photos on her Facebook page of a Cebu Pacific flight steward who indeed went out his way to help his passengers and their crying boy. The steward, who we still need to identify, offered his assistance to the grandparent of the crying child by carrying the boy around while serving other passengers at the same time.
When we say "flight attendants are your unsung heroes in the sky", we truly mean it, especially when they go beyond their call of duty to help their passengers. We have seen some flight attendants feed disabled passengers and truly, their stories melted our hearts. Just yesterday, another story of a flight attendant's heroism went viral on social media, when she breastfed the infant of a passenger mother flying alone.
Alfiani Solikah was a flight attendant who flew her very last flight of her life last October 29. She was one of the 6 flight attendants on board Lion Air flight 610 which crashed to the Java Sea. There were 189 people on board which includes 181 passengers, 2 pilots, and 6 flight attendants. Just recently, some of her last pictures surfaced on social media, one of them being her very last picture.
Just lately, an Aerolineas Argentinas Airbus A330 flying from Miami to Buenos Aires went through clear air turbulence, otherwise known as CAT. Flight AR1303 with 192 passengers on board experienced the terrifying moment when the aircraft flew over Brazil. 15 passengers were injured some with no bleeds. Pictures showed the mess in the cabin caused by the turbulence with the galley.
In celebration of World Pride 2019, Virgin will be launching a special flight from London to New York, to be flown by cabin crew and pilots from the LGBT community! This is set to happen on June 28, 2019! More than just being flown by a full LGBT flight crew, passengers will be entertained with games, a drag queen, Judy Garland singalong, and an inflight DJ!
Before we go to the main article, we just want to share this picture we had with Philippine Airlines President and Chief Operating Officer Jaime "Jimmy" Bautista, taken when we paid him a courtesy visit in his office. During our visit where we exchanged pleasantries, we shared a lot about the working relations between Philippine Airlines particularly their cabin crew and Flyhigh Manila.
It is indeed such a fulfillment to be living our dreams and to be able to reach our career goals. Yet, it is a much more fulfilling to give back by helping others make their dreams take flight. Just last Saturday, September 29, PAL Express Inflight Services Manager and certified cabin crew Mr. Joselito "Jojit" Las and a group of line administrators organized a workshop and mentorship day for individuals who have dreams of becoming a flight attendant.
A woman with down syndrome finally saw her dream turn into a reality as she became a flight attendant for a day aboard a Southwest Airlines flight. Tracy Sharp, from Sacramento CA, wore her uniform and wings for a day as she greeted and helped other flight attendants serve passengers. Thanks to one of their cabin crew named Vicki Heath, who really made sure that Sharp's lifelong dream would finally become a reality.
It was on August 16 when the Xiamen Air mishap in NAIA took place. All flights to and from Manila where either cancelled or delayed. This included Philippine Airlines flight 659 travelling from Dubai to Manila. Amidst the chaos and all on the ground, a beautiful event unfolded onboard that flight as a passenger knelt to his girlfriend to ask for her yes when he asked her "will you marry me?"
In most parts of the world, people sees flight attendants as, flight attendants. They are there to make your flight comfortable. It's a job. In South Korea though, it is a whole different story. Being a flight attendant is like being a major celebrity.
