Just today, Airbus posted a picture on it's Facebook page showing a man painting "Love Bus" on an A350! The caption even said "WOWW! We're working on a special livery for one of our longest-standing customers! Can you guess who? It's an #A350! Watch this space! #LongRangeLeader". As far as we can recall and based on our research, there is only one airline who had a yellow "The Love Bus" as its livery in the past, and that's no less than Philippine Airlines.
We also believe that PAL is due to receive two more Airbus A350-900s this year. We are not saying that this "Love Bus" shown above is a Philippine Airlines jet, but let's go back to history 40 years ago.
Philippine Airlines received its very first jet from Airbus in 1979, an Airbus A300B4, and to celebrate the delivery of the first PAL Airbus jet, the A300 had a special livery on its fuselage that said "The Love Bus" with a lip painted below the font. This jet marked the beginning of PAL's deep rooted partnership with Airbus, which continues to this day.
If you will look closely at the classic PAL A300 and the typeface of "The Lovebus", it is exactly the same typeface seen in the recent picture that Airbus posted.
Philippine Airlines operated the Airbus A300 until 2001. To this day, majority of PAL's aircraft are from Airbus, consisting of A320s, A321CEOs, A321NEOs, A330-300s, and A350-900s. It also operated A340-300s which were recently retired. PAL is set to receive 17 more Airbus aircraft consisting of 15 A321NEOs and 2 A350-900s. They also have the option of 6 A350s, either the -900 or -1000 series.
It has always been our dream to see one of PAL's newer generation jets wear a retro livery and we hope that the "Lovebus" picture above is what we think it is. We are not confirming nor denying anything about who that airline is which Airbus is refering to in their Facebook post, but indeed, your guess is as good as ours.
Whatever it is, we hope to see an Airbus A350-900 wearing the PAL classic 80s "Lovebus" livery which I am sure would bring a lot of nostalgia to our old time flyers, cabin crew, and pilots.
