An Air Niugini Boeing 737-800 overshoots the runway in Micronesia and ends up in the ocean. Flight PX073 was coming in from Pohnpei in Micronesia and was scheduled to continue its journey through to Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. All 36 passengers and crew members are safe. The aircraft sunk in the lagoon.
PX073's flight is from Pohnpei in the Federal State of Micronesia going to Port Moresby, but had to stop at Chuuk Airport. Rescue boats arrived in the scene right away to rescue the passengers and crew members.
According to The Guardian, "Air Niugini is PNG’s national airline. The plane in question is believed to be a 13-year-old aircraft previously operated by Jet Airways and Air India Express, and was involved in a collision at Port Moresby in May."
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
