CABIN CREW LIFE
Life of a flight attendant and flight steward in general. Advice, stories, and know-its.
What makes a flight attendant happy? Well, here are some of those things that makes them happy both in the air and on the ground.
We have to remember that even if a flight attendant travels places, it is a very tiring job. As glamorous as it seems, flight attendants still go through stress and they do want to unwind too. So here are those little things that would definitely put a smile not only on their faces but in their hearts too.
Acknowledge their presence when boarding or deplaning. Flight attendants are used to not being greeted back by passengers but greeting them back and acknowledging them touches their heart. They feel very much respected as flight attendants
When being served, always say “thank you”. Flight attendants attend to many passengers aside from serving food and giving pillows. No matter what, saying thank you or a little gesture of such makes them feel good.
Listen and obey your flight attendants. They know more about the aircraft than you do, unless you are a present cabin crew, a former cabin crew or more so a pilot. Flight attendants are simply doing their job to make sure you get to your destination safely so it is best to just follow them and not to argue anymore.
Do not poke or pull their uniform to call them. There is such thing as a cabin attendant call button. And please do not abuse this button. Please do make sure also that your child does not play around with the call button.
Flight attendants enjoy good conversations especially when it comes to travels and places. Sharing insights about travel, places you had been to, a bit of history, and culture does get them interested.
If you are to take a flight attendant out, make sure the food does not taste like aircraft food. They are definitely sick of this. Bring them to restaurants which are new to them. Besides, their taste in food is quite broad after being able to eat different types and taste different food cultures from around the world.
Respect their sleeping time. Flight attendants work on shifting hours travelling from one time zone to another. This definitely ruins their body clock. Sleep is like a gold mine to them. Respecting their sleeping time makes them very happy!
When deplaning, commend the flight attendants for their great services. Though safety is their number one priority, many airline cabin crew I know exerts a huge amount of professionalism to be able to give their passengers not only a safe flight but a very comfortable one as well. A commendation or a letter of thanks from the passengers are like the first toy of a kid. It is very precious. No need to leave a tip, most do not accept tips anyway. Acknowledging their good services though are priceless to them.
Be very polite to your flight attendant. Well, some still do omit mistakes but this gives us no reason to berate or scream at them. Incase of an emergency, guess who will be the first one to make sure you are safe and alive. Should they apologize, just accept it and talk to them politely. Sometimes behind every flight attendant smile is one very tired individual working their best not only to serve their passengers properly but also to provide for themselves, their families, and loved ones. So when asking for something and they do not come to you right away, take it easy as they might be serving others or they are going through some standard procedure in service as required by the airline. Unless you are flying on a private jet or you are the lone passenger on a Boeing 777, then just be patient. Your cabin attendant will definitely attend to you also. And once he or she arrives, please do speak to them politely.
Learn how to clean the aircraft lavatories after use. Though it is not a passenger’s job to do this but it puts a smile on a flight attendant’s face whenever they see that the lavatories are still clean even after they had been used.
It is NOT a cabin crew's job to lift your luggage unto the overhead bin. They will only lend assistance if you are a PWD, pregnant, and a senior citizen. So if you are an able passenger and you were able to carry your hand carry luggage from your house to your car to the airport terminal to the departure area, then you can definitely lift that unto the overhead bin. If you do not like lifting luggage for some reason that you are too lazy to do so, then just have it checked in. It's free anyway.
And for crying out loud, it is just right that if anyone greets you, you greet them back, regardless of who they are.
So if you want to make a flight attendant happy, just follow these tips. Always remember that a happy flight attendant will definitely give you a happy flight as well. When on the ground, flight attendants are very interesting individuals, there is so much to learn from them.
